It could be the next shot in the cold war between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Days after reports emerged that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers following a Week 4 loss to the Broncos, TheAthletic.com’s Dianna Russini reports that Rodgers, who said 10 days ago he wants to play in 2025 , doesn’t want to play for the Jets in 2025.
And so the foundation is fully laid for Rodgers’ two-pronged post-farewell media blitz. Pat McAfee and AJ Hawk will ask Rodgers about it on Tuesday. Rodgers will grumble and mutter about media leaks before potentially saying anything substantive about whether he wants to continue playing for the Jets, in the future or now. He will then have his usual press conference on Wednesday, where he will (or may not) be asked pointed and repeated questions about recent developments and reports.
Either way, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s over for the Jets and Rodgers. The only questions remaining are whether he will be placed on injured reserve, whether he will be benched, whether he will play out and whether he will be cut.
With the Giants releasing Daniel Jones, Rodgers may want the same thing – if they’re thinking about benching him. Perhaps, in what would be his final act if de facto GM, Rodgers could also release receiver Davante Adams.
